Sparring drill – Rear leg front turning kick meets jab-reverse punch

Experience level:  Recommended for Green belt and above

Curriculum target:  Sparring

Core skills developed:  Rapid counter-attack, self-control, awareness of the opponent’s movements

Tenets reinforced:  Courtesy, Indomitable spirit, Self-control

Equipment needed:  Hogu/Chest guard

Partners:  Students work in pairs

Description:

Students wear protective chest guards and form two lines facing each other.  Students alternate turns as attacker and defender.  One student has their left foot forward and the other student has his/her right foot forward.

The attacking student executes a rear leg turning kick toward the head without the intention to strike.

The defending student lunges forward with a jab punch followed by a reverse punch.

The drill is repeated for 2-3 minutes before the roles are switched and again to switch the lead foot position.
