TAEKWON-DO INTERNATIONAL PRESS RELEASE

Master John Meany, head instructor at S.J. Kim’s Taekwon-Do under Taekwon-Do International President Grandmaster Suk Jun Kim, and Master James Marr, owner of Glen Ridge Taekwon-do, were both recently promoted to the level of 6^th Dan Black Belt.

Before a panel of judges and a crowd of fellow practitioners, the two candidates demonstrated three patterns in sync. Master Marr then broke four boards with a lead leg side kick, three suspended boards with a knifehand strike, and four boards with a back kick while standing on broken glass. Master Meany broke four boards with a front turning kick, two self-suspended boards in midair with a punch, and used a jumping reverse turning kick to break two boards balanced on another black belt’s head.

In further news, Taekwon-Do International held their 6^th Annual Conference June 4^th and 5^th at their New York City headquarters.

The session started Friday evening with a special black belt class, followed by an instructors’ seminar taught by Master Marr and special guest Master Oh from Pearl River, New York. Both drew on personal experience to detail the most effective ways to teach Taekwon-do to children, with emphasis on special needs kids.

Grandmaster Kim taught Taekwon-Do history, fundamentals and basics on Saturday, with an intense focus on patterns. Master Meany was named as Union Demonstrator, and acted in this capacity at the seminar.
